Louisiana's unemployment rate fell to 4.5 percent in February, hitting the lowest level since mid-2008.
The number of people who told surveyors they had a job hit a new record for the fifth month in a row, approaching 2 million.
A separate survey shows payrolls were grew slightly from January to February, but remained below the record levels of late 2013.
Both sets of figures — adjusted to cancel out normal seasonal changes — were released Friday by the U.S. Department of Labor.
Louisiana's unemployment rate was 4.9 percent in January and 6.4 percent in February 2013.
Total unemployed Louisianians fell below 100,000 — also for the first time since mid-2008 — hitting 95,000 in February. That's down from almost 103,000 in January and 134,000 in February 2013.
