The St. Tammany Parish Public School District is preparing to launch a "virtual classroom" pilot program for the 2013-14 school year.
School Superintendent Trey Folse says the "virtual classroom" will replace the bricks-and-mortar classroom for students who enroll. The pilot program is for junior high school students only.
"We're doing it in a pilot program. We wanted to start small so we can make sure we do it properly. It will be students in 6th, 7th or 8th grades who will be the ones who will be eligible at this time," Folse said.
The program will begin accepting students in August - there are 200 slots available - and the online classes will begin in September.
