Robbery Leaves LaPlace Store Owner Dead, Wife Injured

The owners of the LaPlace Feed and Supply Store were the targets of an armed robbery Tuesday afternoon that left one dead and the other injured.

The St. John Parish Sheriff reported that two persons had been detained for questioning.  The two were picked up about a quarter-mile from the scene.

Killed in the robbery was 63-year-old Steve Finckbeiner. His 58-year-old wife, Constance, was injured and taken to University Hospital in New Orleans, where she underwent surgery.

The Sheriff's Office received a call reporting the shootings at 2:36pm.

The perpetrators made off with a cash register from the store located in the 100 block of Sleepy Redwood Drive.

Nearby schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution. The lockdown was lifted around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
