Jefferson Parish's inspector general has extended the deadline for the parish council to respond to a confidential memo that his office has issued to the council regarding the process being followed in choosing a lessee for the parish's two public hospitals.
The council now has until November 11 to respond.
Inspector General David McClintock says the memo, or preliminary draft, is part of his office's effort to monitor the hospital leasing process. He says at some point after the council responds to the memo, it will be made public.
The chairman of the East Jefferson General Hospital Board, Sheriff Newell Normand, tells 99.5FM it's not clear when the council will vote on the issue.
"And I'm not sure how near in the future it will be an agenda item on the council agenda," Normand said.
Normand added, " I think we're all in a wait and see mode right now to see exactly what's gonna shake out relative to the IG report and then the council deciding when they want to take this issue up."
