One of the bidders seeking lease agreements to operate East Jefferson General Hospital and West Jefferson Medical Center dropped out Thursday afternoon.
“This process has simply gone on for too long, with no appearance of resolution and no end in sight. We are not prepared to continue in this process,” said Mel Lagarde, HCA MidAmerica Division President.
The bid process has had a number of stops and starts, with HCA competing with Louisiana Children's Medical Center and Ochsner to enter into lease agreements.
HCA also recently had to withstand an attempt by Jefferson Parish councilman Ricky Templet to have their bid tossed out over a guilty plea to Medicare fraud charges 14 years ago.
"We wish you well as you continue to evaluate options for the future of your hospitals," Lagarde added.
HCA’s MidAmerica Division continues to operate Lakeview Regional Medical Center in Covington, and along with its partner Tulane University operates the Tulane Medical Center and Tulane-Lakeside Hospital.
