A 13-year-old 7th grader and a 14-year-old 8th grader at Mandeville Junior High School have been booked with possession of a firearm on school property.
Mandeville police the arrests of the two juveniles came after a loaded handgun was found inside a bathroom at the school.
Police said the revolver was found hidden in a ceiling tile.
Mandeville police Lt. Gerald Sticker said students had heard rumors about another student possibly having a loaded handgun and alerted school officials.
Sticker said there is no immediate danger to students or faculty, but the school has been placed on lockdown as a precaution.
School district spokeswoman Meredith Mendez said a "robo call" went out to parents of the school's students to inform them of the discovery of the weapon and the subsequent lockdown.
