Carnival 2014 opens up a busy slate of parades starting Friday, with 23 krewes large and small taking to the streets this weekend.
The over 400-member Krewe of Cork kicks things off Friday afternoon in the French Quarter at 3 p.m. Two parades roll Uptown with Oshun at 6 p.m. followed by Cleopatra at 6:30. Excalibur in Metairie and Eve in Mandeville will start at 7 p.m.
Saturday features no less than five parades Uptown with the Krewe of Pontchatrain at 1 p.m., followed by Choctaw and Freret. Later that night, Sparta rolls at 6 p.m followed by Pygmalion at 6:30. The Marigny hosts 'tit Rex and the Krewe of Chewbacca at 5 and 8 p.m. respectively.
On the Westbank, The Mystic Knights of Adonis are set to go shortly before Noon. The Knights of Nemesis are Chalmette's only parade this Mardi Gras starting at 1 p.m.
At 6 p.m., Ceasar rolls down Veterans in Metairie, while on the Northshore, Covington welcomes Olympia. Finally. there's the Krewe of Titans in Slidell at 6:30 p.m.
Sunday, there's a Uptown tripleheader with the krewes of Carrollton, King Arthur and Merlin, and Alla starting at Noon. The Krewe of Dionysus rolls in Slidell at 1 p.m. At 2 p.m., the all-boat Krewe of Tchefuncte hits the water in Madisonville. You might need to watch your step in the French Quarter as the Krewe of Barkus goes to the dogs, also at 2.
After a few days to let everyone recover, parades return Wednesday night Uptown.
