With an estimated net worth of $1.6 billion, Benson is 386th on the list. He also is the most wealthy person in Louisiana.
In addition to the two sports franchises, Benson owns auto dealerships, Fox 8 television in New Orleans and the 26-story Benson Tower on Poydras Street.
Leading the Forbes list is Bill Gates with a reported net worth of $81 billion. The CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, Warren Buffet is second with an estimated net worth of $67 billion.
Forbes say the aggregate net worth of the richest 400 Americans was $2.29 trillion, up $270 billion from a year ago. It took a minimum net worth of $1.55 billion to make The Forbes 400, $250 million more than in 2013.
