Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies say a 31-year-old man was shot to death in the driveway of his in-laws' house moments after saying goodbye to his children for the night.
Col. John Fortunato says Joseph Anderson was leaving his in-laws' home Wednesday night when detectives believe someone shot him in the head and then took off in his green Toyota 4-Runner he'd been driving.
Fortunato said shortly after Anderson left the house, a relative inside heard a loud popping sound, but thought it was probably fireworks.
Deputies say the missing 4-Runner was recovered Thursday morning.
Anderson's death marks Jefferson Parish's first homicide of 2014.
