Family Gras Neutral Ground Undergoing A Transformation

The neutral ground along Veterans Blvd. by Lakeside Shopping Center that's used for Family Gras each year is being transformed.

Randy Nicholson, Jefferson Parish's Director of Streets, says the area will be called Mardi Gras Plaza and will be designed to look like a pair of Mardi Gras beads.

"You've probably noticed there are circles out, paved circles. All those circles are gonna denote Mardi Gras beads, and in the center there's gonna be a large medallion attached to that, with a tribute to all the past and present Mardi Gras krewes," Nicholson said.

"We're doing some landscape pavers, we're putting in some palm trees and some other improvements to make the repairs a little bit more permanent to fit with Family Gras and for residents to enjoy the entire year," Nicholson added.

The $675,000 project is expected to be completed around December 1st of this year. Mardi Gras Plaza is part of a larger project to beautify Veterans Blvd. from the Orleans Parish line to Kenner.
