Jefferson Parish's 7th annual Family Gras kicks off tonight at 5 at Mardi Gras Plaza, the new paved portion of the Veterans Blvd. median near Severn Avenue, across from Lakeside Shopping Center.
Violet Peters, President/CEO of the Jefferson Convention and Visitors Bureau, says Family Gras offers something for everyone.
"It's a great family fun event to come out, enjoy the concerts, enjoy some great food and then enjoy the parade as it rolls by," Peters said.
"We have a great show starting with Amanda Shaw that will start off on Friday at 5:30pm, and then of course we have Cowboy Mouth starting at 7pm, and they'll end at 8:30pm when Excalibur will be rolling by the Family Gras site," Peters said.
The full entertainment lineup is at www.familygras.com.
The Krewe of Caesar will pass by Family Gras Saturday night, but there's no parade on Sunday because the Krewe of Atlas canceled, citing lack of funds.
As for the food that can be purchased on site, Peters said, "We've got some great Louisiana favorites like alligator sausage poboy. We'll have bacon-wrapped shrimp poboys, soft-shelled crabs. We'll also see stuffed crabs."
And there will be children's activities as well. Family Gras runs through Sunday. Peters expects 80,000 to 90,000 to attend over the three days.
