Demolition Sought For Buildings Near Where Ahlittia North's Body Was Found

Jefferson Parish Councilman Mark Spears says he plans to introduce a resolution at Wednesday's council meeting seeking the immediate demolition of several vacant, dilapidated four-plexes in the Woodmere subdivision in Harvey.

The body of six-year-old Ahlittia North of Harvey was found outside one of the four-plexes last week.

"The resolution is asking the administration to demolish 6 buildings - four-plexes - in the Woodmere community based on the ordinance that is already in place," Spears said in an interview with 99.5FM.

Spears says he's been seeking demolition of the buildings for months, but the child's stabbing death is bringing attention to the problem.

The buildings are located on Destrehan Avenue in Harvey in the area where Ahlittia North lived and in the 3700 block of Long Leaf Lane.

The parish council is scheduled to meet in Grand Isle on Wednesday.
