Jefferson Parish Councilman Mark Spears says administrative hearings will be held in the coming weeks to decide the fate of six blighted buildings in the Woodmere Subdivision in Harvey where the body of a six-year-old girl was found.
"We were told by code enforcement that all six have hearing dates set and that they're gonna be pushing action for demolition on all those properties," Spears told 99.5FM Monday.
A vacant apartment building in the same neighborhood at 2636 Destrehan Avenue was demolished Friday by order of the parish.
Spears, who's been pushing to have the buildings torn down, says the pace of demolition isn't fast enough for Woodmere residents.
"They were happy to see that one property come down, but they want to see all seven and I'm sure there's more in the neighborhood," Spears said.
