The Miss USA pageant is coming to Baton Rouge this summer. The event will be held at the River Center on June 8.
"2014 is the year. Miss USA organization officials have told me they find the sense of community in Baton Rouge inspiring," Baton Rouge Mayor "Kip" Holden said.
"So it is with great pleasure that we welcome the Miss USA contestants, the Donald Trump organization, and a television viewing audience estimated at 100 million people," he added.
To lure the pageant, officials say Visit Baton Rouge offered a $300,000 incentive package, including $50,000 for events to showcase the city. The state Office of Tourism also gave $50,000 to attract the event.
Baton Rouge hosted the Miss Teen USA pageant in 2005. The event planned to return the following year, but those plans were cancelled after Hurricane Katrina.
