A 13-year-old boy from Terrytown has been arrested after authorities say he told them he used TV wrestling moves on his 5-year-old half-sister, who died from the beating.
Authorities say Viloude Louis died from blunt-force trauma and multiple internal injuries.
Jefferson Parish sheriff's spokesman Col. John Fortunato says the boy, identified by the Sheriff's Office as Devalon Armstrong, was arrested Tuesday and booked into a juvenile center on a charge of second-degree murder.
Deputies say they received a 911 call from the Terrytown apartment on Carrollwood Village Drive on Sunday and found the girl unresponsive. She was pronounced dead a short time later at a local hospital.
Investigators say the teen allegedly told them he repeatedly slammed the girl on a bed, punched her in the stomach, jumped on her and struck her with his elbow several times.
The Advocate reports that questions were raised Tuesday during a court hearing about whether Armstrong is mentally competent and could participate in his own defense. He will be evaluated by psychiatrists before a hearing is held on the issue. The newspaper reports that hearing has been scheduled for next month.
